Netanyahu has ‘excellent’ meeting with Tillerson

“The US-Israel alliance has always been strong, and it’s about to get stronger,” Netanyahu said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday night for dinner, ahead of his meeting on Wednesday with President Donald Trump.

Netanyahu and Trump last met at the end of September, some six weeks before the US president’s election victory.

“I had an excellent meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. The US-Israel alliance has always been strong, and it’s about to get stronger,” Netanyahu wrote on Facebook after the meeting.

“All regional issues were discussed, including Iran,” the Prime Minister’s Office stated.

Netanyahu invited Tillerson to visit Israel and “also to establish direct connections between the secretary of state and the PMO,” the statement said.

During their discussion, a White House official who was briefing reporters ahead of Trump’s meeting with Netanyahu suggested that peace between Israel and the Palestinians may not necessarily come in the form of a two-state solution — a position that could represent a dramatic shift from decades of US policy.

The Israeli premier is also scheduled for meetings at Capitol Hill with lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
