Netanyahu released from hospital after complaining of chest pains

Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu discharged from Jerusalem hospital Thursday, after being hospitalized over chest pains during Yom Kippur fast.

Israeli Opposition Leader and former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was discharged from Shaare Zedek Medical Center Thursday morning, and is expected to return to work shortly, his office announced.

“Former Prime Minister Netanyahu was released from the Shaare Zedek Medical Center a few minutes ago,” a hospital spokesperson said Thursday, “after the results of all of the tests he underwent came out completely normal.”

“Netanyahu offers his thanks to Prof. Ofer Merin, general director of Shaare Zedek; Dr. Elad Asher, chief of the hospital’s cardiology intensive care unit; Dr. Amir Orlev, manager of the hospital’s cardiology ward; and to the entire dedicated staff of the hospital,” the Opposition Leader’s office said in a statement Thursday morning.

After being released from the hospital, Netanyahu went for a morning jog, and is expected to return to his office later on Thursday, his office said.

Netanyahu, who turns 73 later this month, complained of chest pains during the Yom Kippur fast Wednesday, and was rushed to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center for examination.

According to a statement by his office Wednesday night, Netanyahu said that he felt better, but remained at the hospital overnight to “remove any doubt” regarding his condition.

“Former prime minister Netanyahu felt unwell while praying at synagogue. He underwent a series of tests on site that came out normal and now he feels well.”

Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Alternate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett wished Netanyahu a speedy recovery Wednesday.

“I wish Benjamin Netanyahu a speedy and complete recovery. Only health,” Prime Minister Yair Lapid tweeted at the end of Yom Kippur.

Bennett wrote, “I wish the entire House of Israel many good years, and I wish Benjamin Netanyahu a complete and speedy recovery. Only good.”

Leaders of right-wing factions allied with the Likud, including the Religious Zionist Party and Shas, also wished Netanyahu a quick recovery.
