Report: Israel attacks Syrian military installation

The Israel Air Force has reportedly bombed a strategic facility in Syria.

Israeli warplanes reportedly attacked a target near Damascus, Syria, early Wednesday, Syrian media reported.

Syrian state media reported that the target was situated in Jamraya, on the outskirts of Damscus.

Meanwhile, the Syrian General Command said in a statement that “warplanes of the Israeli enemy on 3:42 am on Wednesday fired several missiles from inside the Lebanese territories on one of our military positions in Damascus countryside, and the air defense intercepted the missiles and destroyed most of them.”

“This outrageous aggression comes in framework of the desperate and repeated attempts to raise the morale of the terrorist organizations which are collapsing in all areas and to encourage terrorists, the tools of the Israeli enemy, to continue their attacks against civilians, particularly in Damascus and its countryside,” the Syrian army claimed.

Syria holds Israel “fully responsible for the dangerous repercussions of its repeated and uncalculated hostile adventures,” the Syrian army stated on the official Syrian SANA news site.

No further details were provided.

The Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), which was attacked in the past, is in the Jamraya area.

The SSRC is a Syrian center for the development and production of weapons, including long-range missiles and possibly chemical weapons.

The US has accused the SSRC of developing the sarin gas used in a chemical attack on Syrian civilians in April, which killed 83.

The Israel Air Force (IAF) reportedly attacked site in September.

Israel has remained silent, in accordance with its conduct in similar previous incidents.

Similar reports of IAF strikes inside Syria have emerged in the past.

This reported attack comes just hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on a tour of the border with Syria, warned Syria not to test Israel.

Netanyahu and members of the Security Cabinet were briefed by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot and GOC Northern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoel Strick.

“We want peace but we are prepared for any scenario and I suggest that no one test us,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu’s statement comes against a backdrop of repeated comments by Israeli officials that it would not tolerate an Iranian military buildup in Syria and accusations that Tehran is trying to turn Lebanon into a huge munitions factory for its proxy Hezbollah.
