Report: Trump frustrated with military options for confronting Iran

“Everything that has been written about a potential war with Iran has been written incorrectly, and purposefully so,” Trump said.

President Donald Trump is increasingly frustrated with the limited options he has been presented with for using military force against Iran, according to a report published by CBS News on Monday night, with no viable scenario for a quick, decisive blow to the regime.

The report cited multiple unnamed sources who said that the president has sought plans for a brief military operation against Iran powerful enough to force Tehran to compromise without sparking an extended war that spreads beyond Iran, drawing in American allies across the region.

However, Trump’s military advisers have cautioned him that even a limited American air campaign in Iran could trigger a broad conflict impacting friendly powers in the Middle East and lasting for an extended period.

One senior military official emphasized to CBS News that the president’s advisers are providing unbiased assessments.

Trump on Monday pushed back on claims that the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Daniel Caine, has advised against going to war with Iran.

In a post to his Truth Social account, the president derided the claims as “fake news.”

“He has not spoken of not doing Iran, or even the fake limited strikes that I have been reading about, he only knows one thing, how to WIN and, if he is told to do so, he will be leading the pack.”

“Everything that has been written about a potential War with Iran has been written incorrectly, and purposefully so,” Trump wrote.

The US has deployed one nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to the region, with a second carrier battle group en route.

Hundreds of combat aircraft and a number of advanced early warning planes, mid-air refueling aircraft, and other support craft have also been transferred to the Middle East in recent weeks.
