Trump mocks CNN, NYT for reporting on fake Iranian peace plan

CNN, NYT duped by “hoax” Iranian peace plan demands, President Trump says, blasting “charlatans” who pushed “fake” Iranian 10-point plan.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused CNN and The New York Times of promoting a “totally fake” 10-point Iran peace plan, intensifying a growing dispute over what terms actually govern the ceasefire between the US and Iran.

Shortly after a two-week truce was agreed to before dawn on Wednesday, a document purportedly showing Iran’s 10 primary demands in talks with the United States was circulated on the internet.

The list was also shared by the Iranian embassy on Iran’s X account.

Media outlets, including CNN and The New York Times, published the list, which includes demands such as a full withdrawal of American forces from the Middle East, the lifting of all sanctions, Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, and the termination of all United Nations Security Council resolutions targeting Iran.

In addition, the document claims Iran is demanding that the United States pay war reparations.

On Wednesday, President Trump pushed back on reports regarding the document, writing that CNN and the Times were duped by a “totally fake” list.

“Numerous Agreements, Lists, and Letters are being sent out by people that have absolutely nothing to do with the U.S.A. / Iran Negotiation, in many cases, they are total Fraudsters, Charlatans, and WORSE,” Trump wrote.

Trump warned that a federal investigation was underway to probe the origins of the lists circulated online, though it is unclear if he referred to genuine documents that were leaked.

“They will be rapidly exposed after our Federal Investigation is completed,” Trump added.

The president said that the actual proposal put forward by Iran is “reasonable,” in contrast to the document mentioned by CNN and the Times.

“There is only one group of meaningful ‘POINTS’ that are acceptable to the United States, and we will be discussing them behind closed doors during these Negotiations.”

“These are the POINTS that are the basis on which we agreed to a CEASEFIRE. It is something that is reasonable, and can easily be dispensed with. It’s very much like Fake News CNN last night, headlining a ‘source’ that had no power or authority to write a Letter claiming great authority.”

Trump later penned a second Truth Social post, again pushing back on reporting regarding the alleged 10-point Iranian proposal.

“The Failing New York Times and Fake News CNN each reported a totally FAKE TEN POINT PLAN on the Iran negotiations which was meant to discredit the people involved in the peace process. All ten points were a made up HOAX – EVIL LOSERS!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
