US dispatches nuclear supercarrier as Israel-Lebanon war looms

Amid fears of imminent full-scale war between Israel and Lebanon, US Navy dispatches supercarrier to the Eastern Mediterranean.

The United States Navy has dispatched a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to the Eastern Mediterranean, amid concerns that a full scale war may be imminent on the Israel-Lebanon border.

On Saturday, Sky News Arabic reported that the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower, a Nimitz Class nuclear powered supercarrier, has been ordered to delay a planned return to its home port in Norfolk, Virginia following an assignment in the Red Sea.

The carrier, the report said, will remain in the Eastern Mediterranean to “assist” in the case of the outbreak of war between Israel and Lebanon.

The Associated Press reported Sunday that the Eisenhower is currently off the coast of Port Said, Egypt.

The Eisenhower had been on assignment in the Red Sea to deter Houthi terrorists from attacking oil tankers and cargo vessels travelling through the heavily-used waterway.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Sunday that American forces destroyed three Houthi vessels over the weekend, all of them unmanned.

The redeployment of the Eisenhower comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and the Lebanon-based, Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group, which has threatened to bomb major Israeli cities should the IDF increase its operations against terrorists in southern Lebanon launching rockets and war drones against northern Israeli towns.

Over the weekend, Canada announced plans to evacuate 45,000 of its citizens from Lebanon, citing the possibility of an imminent war between Israel and Lebanon.

The Biden administration reportedly reassured an Israeli delegation in Washington that the White House will support Israel in a possible ground war against Hezbollah.

Hezbollah terrorists have pounded Israeli border towns with rockets, mortars, shoulder-fired missiles, machine gun fire, and suicide drones since October 8th, a day after the Hamas invasion of southwest Israel.

In response, the U.S. Navy deployed the U.S.S. Gerald Ford to the Eastern Mediterranean in October to deter an escalation by Hezbollah terrorists on the Lebanon-Israel front.
