US pounds Iranian infrastructure as campaign expands

The attacks came after President Donald Trump publicly warned that bridges and power plants could become targets if Iran refused to agree to a deal.

The United States struck several major infrastructure targets in Iran on Thursday as Washington continued its military campaign against Tehran, with Iranian media reporting attacks on bridges, transportation hubs and other strategic sites across the country.

Iranian reports said several bridges in southern Iran were struck, including a bridge connecting Bandar Abbas, Kahorstan and Shiraz. The strikes reportedly caused power outages in parts of the Kahorstan area.

Additional attacks were reported on an airport in Iranshahr, a railway station in Ahvaz, and multiple railway lines. Heavy strikes were also reported in Bostan, Khuzestan Province, as the U.S. campaign appeared to expand beyond previous operations focused primarily on military targets.

Shortly before the reports emerged, U.S. Central Command announced that American forces had begun a new wave of strikes against Iran, marking the sixth consecutive night of operations. CENTCOM said the strikes are aimed at further degrading Iranian military capabilities.

The strikes came after President Donald Trump repeatedly warned that Iran could face attacks on critical infrastructure if it refused to return to negotiations.

“Next week it gets really bad for them,” Trump said earlier this week. “We’re going to knock out all their power plants. We’re going to knock out all their bridges unless they get to the table and negotiate.”

Trump also said energy facilities remained potential targets.

“I’ll save the energy targets for last, but ultimately we’ll hit energy targets,” he said.

Iran has responded with threats of further escalation. An adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that Tehran would retaliate by targeting regional infrastructure if Iranian facilities came under attack.

“We will destroy the entire energy supply chain in the region,” the adviser said.

The reported strikes mark a significant escalation in the U.S. campaign against Iran, as Washington increases pressure on Tehran following repeated Iranian attacks on commercial shipping and regional targets.
