Vance warns mediators that Trump is impatient, wants deal now

The message was passed through officials from Pakistan and Turkey, who have been acting as mediators between Washington and Tehran.

US Vice President JD Vance conveyed a message to intermediaries that President Donald Trump is pushing for a swift agreement to end the war with Iran, warning of increased pressure if Tehran does not comply with US demands, according to a source familiar with the discussions cited by CNN on Wednesday.

The message was passed through officials from Pakistan and Turkey, who have been acting as mediators between Washington and Tehran.

Vance told them that Iran faces escalating consequences, including potential action against infrastructure, “unless the Iranians made a deal,” the source said, describing the communication as a “stern message.”

The effort comes as Trump seeks to secure terms for ending the conflict.

According to CNN, the president instructed Vance in private exchanges to indicate that the United States would agree to a ceasefire if its conditions are fulfilled.

Central to those demands is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to oil tanker traffic.

Trump said in a social media post on Wednesday that the waterway must be unblocked before the United States would halt the war.

Trump has also warned that failure to comply could result in strikes on Iranian power plants and water desalination facilities.

In the same post, Trump said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had requested a ceasefire.

Tehran rejected the claim, with its Foreign Ministry calling it “false and baseless.”

Iranian officials also pushed back on US pressure regarding the strait. In a statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps said the Strait of Hormuz “is firmly and decisively under the control” of its forces.

“This strait will not be opened to the enemies of this nation through the ridiculous spectacle by the president of the United States,” the statement said.
