Iran led by ‘religious Nazis,’ says US senator, comparing Ayatollah to Hitler

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham calls Iranian regime the “mothership of terrorism” that must be toppled, comparing Iran’s leaders to Nazis.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham excoriated the Iranian regime last week, declaring the Islamic Republic the “mothership of terrorism,” which must be toppled.

The senior senator from South Carolina was interviewed by CNN‘s Christiane Amanpour at the Munich Security Conference on Friday night, expressing hopes that Iran’s leaders will be removed from power.

While acknowledging that “the risk associated with a regime change is real,” Graham emphasized that the US has “troops in the region” and could defeat Iran if a war does break out. “We’re still the United States.”

“We have incredible capability. I know we would win a conflict,” Graham continued.

When asked whether he was at all concerned that the next regime could be even worse, Graham said the chances of that were “pretty low.”

Should Iran’s current leadership remain in place, Graham warned, it would empower Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and other Iranian proxy groups across the Middle East.

Graham said he backed Trump’s preference for a diplomatic solution, but added that one way or another, the Tehran regime must be removed.

“If we can [remove them] through diplomacy, fine. But we’ve had it with this regime. Think big.”

“Don’t let this moment pass,” he added.

In justifying his calls to remove Iran’s leadership, Graham compared Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to Adolf Hitler, and the Islamic Republic to Nazi Germany.

“Hitler wrote a book [in which he said that] he wanted to kill all the Jews. Nobody believed him. I believe the ayatollah and his regime – not the Iranian people – are religious fanatics, religious Nazis. Hitler wanted a master race; they want a master religion.”

Graham is slated to visit the region this month, with stops planned in Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
