Iran strikes at ISIS targets in Syria with missiles

Iran’s armed forces launched missiles at ISIS targets in Syria in response to the twin terror attacks in Tehran recently carried out by the terror group.

The Islamic Republic of Iran launched several missiles at Islamic State (ISIS) targets inside Syria on Sunday in retaliation for two terror attacks committed by ISIS in Tehran two weeks ago.

The attack was carried out to “punish the terrorists” for the twin attacks on the Iranian parliament and the shrine of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, in Tehran. In what was the first such attack by ISIS in Iran, five ISIS-linked terrorists killed 18 people and wounded 52.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRCG), which fired the six mid-range missiles, said it attacked an ISIS command center, concentration points and logistical centers used for assembling cars for suicide attacks in the Deir Ezzur region in Syria.

The IRGC said the missile struck ISIS “with lethal and crushing blows,” and according to its intelligence, a large number of ISIS terrorists were killed and “their equipment, systems and weapons” destroyed.

The IRGC warned that these missile strikes were “just a warning to deter any further action by the terrorists,” adding that ISIS’ “regional and trans-regional supporters,” possibly meaning Saudi Arabia and the US, will be “engulfed by its [Iran’s] revolutionary wrath and flames of the fire of its revenge in case they repeat any such devilish and dirty move in future.”

“IRGC ensures the noble Iranian nation that it will spare no effort to safeguard national security and defeat seditions and anti-security phenomena to the accompaniment of military, disciplinary, intelligence forces,” the statement concluded.

This strike marks a rare direct attack from inside Iran at targets in Syria amid its support for President Bashar Assad. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has sent forces to fight in the Syrian civil war and incurred casualties in the conflict.
