‘Make Iran great again’ – Trump hints at ousting Khamenei

“Regime change” could lead to a better Iran, Trump says.

US President Donald Trump raised the possibility of ousting Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei from power in a social media post on Sunday, writing that “regime change” could lead to a better Iran.

“It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???MIGA!!!” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.

Trump’s post came shortly after Vice President JD Vance stressed that Washington is not seeking to topple the current Iranian government.

The Trump administration “has been very clear that we don’t want a regime change,” Vance said during an appearance on the US TV Meet the Press talk show.

“We do not want to protract this or build this out any more than it’s already been built out. We want to end their nuclear program, and then we want to talk to the Iranians about a long-term settlement here,” he added.

Last week, Trump insinuated that the US has the ability to assassinate Khamenei, should he refuse to surrender or order attacks on American military assets in the region.

“We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“He is an easy target, but is safe there – We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin.”

Following US military strikes on three key nuclear sites in Iran, the Islamic Republic is expected to retaliate by targeting US bases in the Middle East.

US embassy staff have been evacuated from several countries in the region, and numerous airlines have cancelled flights to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates – which are home to two large American military bases.
