Ex-Israeli PM and FM targeted with war crimes complaint in Canada

Anti-Israel groups file criminal complaint against former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and ex-Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, accusing both of war crimes ahead of their visit to Canada.

A coalition of anti-Israel groups has filed criminal charges in Canada against two former Israeli leaders, ahead of their planned visit to Toronto.

The complaint accuses former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni of war crimes allegedly committed by Israel during the conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip from December 2008 to January 2009, dubbed by the IDF “Operation Cast Lead.”

The effort to target Olmert and Livni for prosecution was orchestrated by the Hind Rajab Foundation, a pro-Hamas group which has sought to harass, doxx, and push for the prosecution of Israeli leaders and soldiers over the war against Hamas.

The petition to Canada’s federal police was joined by far-left and pro-Hamas groups in Canada, including Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights (CLAIHR) and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR).

“Those who planned, ordered, and supervised crimes committed against Palestinians — whether in the past or present — must be held accountable, as war crimes and crimes against humanity have no statute of limitations,” said Natacha Bracq, the head of litigation for the Hind Rajab Foundation.

“The Hind Rajab Foundation calls on Canada to act without delay, in fulfillment of its international obligations, because justice cannot be postponed or denied.”

While most of the Hind Rajab Foundation’s efforts since its establishment last year have focused on targeting Israelis linked to the current war in the Gaza Strip, it has on occasion also sought charges in connection with previous conflicts between Israel and Hamas.

In November, the Hind Rajab Foundation filed a similar criminal complaint against Olmert in Germany ahead of an appearance in Berlin.
