US Senator Ted Cruz: US should not dictate Israeli policy

Republican Senator and US presidential hopeful Ted Cruz said that Israel should be trusted and left to formulate its own policies without American interference.

Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who recently announced his candidacy for the 2016 presidential elections, said the United States should not dictate Israeli policy regarding its diplomatic process with the Palestinians and vowed not to do so if elected.

Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, Cruz said that “Israel is a sovereign nation, and I trust the leaders of Israel to determine whether they want to adopt a one-state solution or a two-state solution,” adding that  the US “should trust” Israel.

The Obama administration has “demonstrated an arrogance that America’s going to dictate the terms of security in Israel. It’s not our place to do it,” Cruz asserted.

Facilitating discussions and providing a neutral forum to bring both sides together would be more constructive, he said.

“It shouldn’t be America saying here’s how you should resolve this in Israel,” Cruz stated.

He stressed that Israel has “far more stakes” in the peace process and that the impediment to peace right now is not Israel, but rather the Palestinians, who established a unity government with the Hamas terror organization.

“As long as the Palestinian government aligns itself with terrorist organizations calling for the destruction of Israel, we’re not going to see peace in Israel, and America shouldn’t be dictating a security solution,” Cruz declared.
