The Trump administration is pushing for a Gaza ceasefire and better aid delivery, citing civilian suffering.

President Donald Trump is disturbed by the ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a media conference on Monday.

Referring to an incident in which Gazan civilians seeking aid were reportedly killed by the IDF, Leavitt said that the “president never likes to see that.”

Trump “wants the killing to end, and he wants to negotiate a ceasefire in this region,” she added.

The president is concerned about ensuring that critical aid reaches civilians without being intercepted by the Hamas terror group, Leavitt stressed.

However, she did not provide any details regarding mechanisms Israel could use to achieve that.

“The president is the reason that aid is even being distributed in Gaza at all,” Leavitt said. “He wants to see this done in a peaceful manner, where more lives are not being lost.”

Trump “hated seeing the pictures of starvation of women and children who desperately need that aid,” she emphasized.

Leavitt also expressed the Trump administration’s disapproval of recent strikes on Syria — which were launched to protect the country’s Druze minority, under attack from Islamist groups — as well as the accidental shelling of a church in Gaza.

Trump was “caught off guard” by those events, she said, adding that the president had flexed his muscles to rein in Israel.

“In both accounts, the president quickly called the prime minister to rectify those situations,” Leavitt said.

According to an Axios report, Trump was incensed by recent Israeli airstrikes on Syria.

The attacks, which targeted Syria’s Defense Ministry and military assets, were meant to pressure the Syrian government into stopping the massacre of Druze by Bedouin tribes aligned with the Syrian army.

Netanyahu “acted like a madman” by bombing Syria,” a Trump administration official told Axios. “He bombs everything all the time. This could undermine what Trump is trying to do.”
