Palestinian female bomber sent to 11 years in prison

A female Palestinian terrorist who set off a bomb in her car in October in the outskirts of Jerusalem and wounded a police officer was sentenced on Monday to 11 years in prison by Jerusalem’s District Court.

Asra Jabas, of Jabel Mukaber in Jerusalem, detonated a car bomb in an attempted suicide attack on one of the main routes leading to Jerusalem.

A traffic officer noticed Jabas driving a suspicious car and flagged it. When the officer asked the her to step out of the car, she exited the vehicle, shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“God is great” in Arabic) and pressed the trigger, exploding the car she was driving.

The police officer, in his 40’s, sustained light burn wounds to his lower extremities. The terrorist, 20, sustained severe wounds.

The car contained other explosive charges that did not explode, and therefore a much more deadly attack was averted.

The court also ordered Jabas to compensate the policeman NIS 20,000.

Jabas’ sister appeared in court and apologized to the court and to the officer, conveying her family’s similar sentiments.
