Trump: Iran doesn’t want the consequences of not making a deal

President Trump says he will be “indirectly” involved in Tuesday’s negotiations with Iran in Geneva, adds he believes Iran wants to reach a deal because it fears the consequences of failing to do so.

President Donald Trump said on Monday that he will indirectly involved in the nuclear talks with Iran on Tuesday.

The talks in Geneva, described by Iran’s foreign minister as “indirect,” are the second round of negotiations between the two sides, following a summit in Muscat, Oman, earlier this month.

Speaking with reporters on Air Force One, the president said that he would be “involved” in the talks, without specifying the nature of his involvement.

“So I’ll be involved in those talks indirectly, and they’ll be very important. We’ll see what can happen,” Trump said.

The president added that Iran likely wants to reach a deal with the United States, as it fears the “consequences” of failing to come to an agreement.

“Typically, Iran’s a very tough negotiator. They are good negotiators or bad negotiators,” Trump continued.

“I would say they’re bad negotiators, because we could add a deal instead of sending the B-2s in to knock out their nuclear potential, and we had to send the B-2s. I hope, I hope they’re going to be more reasonable. They want to make a deal.”

“I think they want to make a deal. I do not think they want the consequences of not making a deal. They want to make a deal.”

Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and White House special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff will represent the US in the talks with Iran, which coincide with peace talks in Geneva between Russia and Ukraine.

As with the summit in Muscat, the Iranian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
