A Syrian officer, speaking for a coalition of forces aligned with the Assad regime, said Monday that the drone targeted this week by an Israeli Patriot missile over the Syrian Golan Heights was taking part in the the “liberation” of Daraa and Quneitra.

According to a report by Debka File, “Syrian military coalition fighting for the liberation of southern Syria,” said the drone was taking part in the “coalition’s operation to liberate Daraa and Quneitra from terrorists.”

This was the first Syrian response to the incident. The “coalition” in Syrian terms refers to units composed of government forces, Hezbollah and pro-Iranian Shi’ite militias.
