A Gaza terrorist sniper used a group of about 20 Palestinian children as a decoy in an attack that left one IDF officer moderately wounded, the IDF said late Wednesday night.

“A Palestinian in Gaza fired at IDF troops under the cover of 20 children that were sent towards the border fence as decoy,” the IDF spokesman said.

“This is the second sniper attack against the IDF in a week. IDF retaliated against Hamas positions.”

The sniper fire and the use of the children launched a new round of violence along the Gaza border.

On Wednesday evening, soldiers from the Givati Brigade were called to the Gaza border to disperse a staged riot by children designed to “bait” the soldiers before a sniper opened fire on them.

Three Palestinians belonging to Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigades military wing were killed while another Palestinian was critically wounded in a retaliatory IDF attack.

The incident took place in the Kissufim area, just 400 meters away from where IDF Staff Sgt. Aviv Levi was killed by a Hamas sniper on Friday afternoon on the Gaza border.

The incident breaks a short-lived ceasefire that began on Sunday.
