Rivka Jamil died on Sunday from injuries she sustained while fleeing for safety during a rocket bombardment from the Gaza Strip in early May. She was 89-years-old and a resident of Israel’s coastal city of Ashkelon.

Jamil was a mother to five and grandmother to 15, according to reports in the Hebrew press. Her husband was killed during the Yom Kippur War in 1972.

Jamil suffered serious injury to her spine when she fell while running for protective shelter during an air raid siren triggered by a Hamas-led rocket attack on Israeli citizens.

Jamil was sent to Barziliai Hospital in Ashkelon for treatment, where she died, hospital officials announced on July 7. She is the fifth Israeli fatality from the May attack.

At the time, the terrorist organization sent nearly 700 rockets into Israel over the span of 24 hours.

The victims in that attack included 58-year-old Moshe Agadi, a father of four, who was fatally wounded when a rocket struck his home in Ashkelon when he had stepped out of the safe room.

Ziad al-Hamamda, 47, was killed later in the day in Ashkelon in a direct hit on a factory. He was rushed to Barzilai Medical Center but didn’t survive his wounds.

Moshe Feder, 68, died when an anti-tank guided missile slammed into the vehicle that he was driving some 20 miles from the Gaza border. He was engaged to be married.

The fourth victim was American-Israeli Pinchas Menachem Prezuazman, 21. He died while running for cover but was caught by shrapnel as he ran into a building.

Israelis in the south are also suffering widespread trauma as a result of the attacks. Special centers have been set up to provide emotional assistance for those living near the Gaza Strip and suffering from the strain.
