Police forces shot and killed a Palestinian terrorist who stabbed and lightly wounded a soldier at a checkpoint at the Tapuach Junction in Samaria on Monday. It was the third such attack within 48 hours.

The terrorist, arriving at the checkpoint, feigned illness and was ordered to approach. As he got closer, he drew a large knife and managed to stab a border policeman. A soldier shot the terrorist, critically wounding him.

“The officer was lightly injured and managed to fight off the assailant,” an IDF spokesperson stated. “The forces on site responded immediately, firing towards the attacker.”

Two separate terror attacks occurred over the weekend in Judea and Samaria, one of which also involved a terrorist asking for help.

On Saturday morning, a Palestinian terrorist requested a glass of water at a border crossing and then stabbed the soldier who turned to get it for him. IDF forces immediately responded by shooting him. The attack occurred on Highway 443 near Beit Horon, a Jewish community in the Benjamin Region, situated between Modiin and Jerusalem.

Medics treated the soldier at the scene and the terrorist was taken to a hospital with a light shoulder wound, the IDF said.

Later that day, a Palestinian approached officers conducting a routine security check near Shechem (Nablus) and stabbed a soldier in the back with a knife, moderately wounding him. An officer nearby opened fire and killed the assailant.

Such an attack, the officer who shot the terrorist said, “lasts only a few seconds. There is no time to hesitate and one has to use precise judgment and act immediately.”

At the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday morning, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated: “I would like to congratulate the soldiers and Border Policemen on their determined action this weekend which halted several terrorist acts. Our policy is zero tolerance for terrorism. Those who try to harm us – we will hurt them.”
