Tlaib slams NY Times headline blaming Gaza terrorists for fighting

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., accused the New York Times of “dehumanizing” Palestinians after the paper published a story on Saturday about the hundreds of rocket attacks on Israel with the headline” “Gaza militants fire 250 rockets, and Israel responds with airstrikes,” the Washington Examiner reported the next day.

Indeed, by the end of the weekend, the number of rockets fired into Israel from Gaza reached 690, according to the IDF. Four Israeli civilians were killed.

Tlaib was apparently incensed that the Times included the reason for the IDF response in its headline, preferring to highlight the Israeli attacks.

“When will the world stop dehumanizing our Palestinian people who just want to be free?” Tlaib tweeted. “Headlines like this & framing it in this way just feeds into the continued lack of responsibility on Israel who unjustly oppress & target Palestinian children and families. #FreePalestine.”

The first two paragraphs in the Times article drawing criticism from Tlaib noted that eight Palestinians, including a “militant” and a pregnant mother with her daughter, were killed between Friday and Saturday by Israeli fire, the Examiner wrote.

Israel, however, insists that the mother and daughter were killed by Gaza terrorists who misfired and that blaming Israel for the deaths is terrorist “propaganda.”

Tlaib, a fervent supporter of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, wore a traditional Palestinian gown when sworn into Congress in January.

Several media members, such as John Cardillo of America Talks Live, have criticized Tlaib out on Twitter for blaming Israel for hundreds of rockets being shot at them, claiming she was justifying the violence against Israel, the Examiner said.

Among Tlaib’s close associates is radical-left Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who called for the release of an “Egyptian political prisoner” with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, downplayed the 9/11 Islamic terror attacks and has used classic anti-Semitic tropes to denounce supporters of the Jewish state.

Another close associate is Rasmea Odeh, a Palestinian terrorist responsible for the murder of two Israeli university students in a 1969 Jerusalem supermarket terrorist bombing for which she served 10 years in an Israeli prison.

She has also expressed a need to “protect” anti-Israel figures like CAIR leader Zahra Billoo.
