The Hamas terror organization on Sunday blamed Israel for Saturday’s blast in the Gaza Strip that killed six members of its military wing and vowed to avenge their deaths.

A press statement released by Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades on Sunday said that six of its members were killed in “a complex security mission after revealing a large spying system” planted by Israel in Gaza.

The blast is widely believed to the result of a “work accident” in which a massive explosive charge went off prematurely.

Israel’s Ynet reported that the terrorists were working to dismantle an unexploded missile fired by Israel.

However, Hamas attempted to depict the incident as a heroic action “to protect the Palestinian people.”

“By sacrificing their lives, our fighters were able to protect the Palestinian people and the resistance from an eminent danger,” the Brigades claimed in the statement. “As a result, a large intelligence scheme set by the Israeli occupation has been thwarted.”

Hamas said that full details of “the complex security operation will be revealed to the public soon.”

The terrorist organization holds Israel in “full and direct responsibility for the killing and vowed to take painful revenge.”

During the funeral processions of the six dead terrorists on Sunday, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said that Hamas is engaged in “an open battle with the Israeli occupation.”

“Our fighters sacrificed their lives to thwart one of the biggest security threats that faced the Palestinian people and resistance,” he said.

“We will retaliate hard because the loss of life from our side can’t be ignored or taken lightly,” Haniyeh threatened.

The IDF has denied any involvement.
