Iran: We’ll bomb US bases if we’re attacked

Top Iranian security official denies that the US has proposed a framework for a nuclear agreement, threatens to strike US military bases in the Middle East if Trump orders attacks on Iran.

The head of Iran’s national security council and a confidant of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned this week that Tehran will strike American bases across the Middle East if the US attacks Iran.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani said in an interview with Al Jazeera on Wednesday that thus far, Tehran has not received a clear proposal from the United States for a new nuclear agreement.

Representatives from both countries held negotiations in Muscat, Oman on Friday, the first talks between Iran and the US since the June 2025 bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities.

Despite reports that the summit Friday included face-to-face talks between delegates from both sides, Larijani claimed that the talks were indirect, with messages exchanged but no formula for negotiations agreed upon nor proposal for a new deal laid out by either side.

Larijani emphasized that Iran will not agree to halt or limit its ballistic missile program.

“Negotiations have their own track and they can bear fruit if conducted with realism and mutual respect,” Larijani said. “The missile program is not up for discussion.”

The Iranian security chief also took a hard line on Iran’s nuclear program, stating that Iran will continue to enrich uranium.

“No one gave us nuclear technology; we obtained it through our own internal efforts.”

“There is no talk of a complete halt to enrichment, because we need it in the fields of energy and medicine production.”

Larijani went on to accuse Israel of “trying to sabotage” talks between Iran and the US and warned that any American military action would prompt Iran to bomb American bases.

“If the US attacks us, we will target its military bases in the region.”
