Israel marks 1,000 days since October 7 massacre

Israel is marking 1,000 days since the October 7 Hamas massacre with nationwide memorials, moments of silence, and marches honoring the 1,200 people murdered and the 251 hostages abducted during the deadliest attack in the country’s history.

Commemorations include a dawn gathering at 6:29 a.m.—the exact moment the assault began—a convoy through the hardest-hit communities, a nationwide moment of silence, and an exhibition displaying 1,000 personal belongings of victims and hostages. Former hostage Rom Braslavski, who spent 737 days in Hamas captivity, is set to address the main evening ceremony in Tel Aviv.

Reflecting on the milestone, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir called October 7 “an attack on the very existence of the Jewish people,” while organizers said the day is dedicated not only to remembrance, but also to demanding accountability and ensuring the tragedy is never forgotten.
