Israeli minister Chikli calls Syrian president ‘terrorist,’ says he ‘should be eliminated’ after attacks against Druze

Citing disturbing footage of regime forces abusing members of the Druze minority, Chikli stated that Israel cannot “stand by” while civilians are targeted.

Israeli Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Minister Amichai Chikli had harsh words for Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, calling him a “terrorist” because of the violence erupting against Druze in Syria, and added that the leader “should be eliminated.”

Citing disturbing footage of regime forces abusing members of the Druze minority, Chikli stated that Israel cannot “stand by” while civilians are targeted.

“We must not stand idly by in the face of the Islamist-Nazi terror regime of Al-Qaeda in a suit and tie,” Chikli posted on X, sharing videos of the attacks. He condemned al-Sharaa as a “terrorist” and a “barbaric murderer,” declaring he should be “eliminated without delay.”

Chikli’s remarks follow reports of brutal assaults by Syrian regime forces on the Druze-majority city of As-Suwayda. Residents described indiscriminate gunfire, home raids, and tanks in city streets. Footage circulating online shows Druze elders being humiliated by regime troops.

Israel has responded with military action. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the IDF to strike regime weaponry and forces that entered the Jabal al-Druze region. The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized Israel’s commitment to protecting Druze communities, citing deep familial and historical ties.

Druze spiritual leader Hikmat al-Hijri called the Syrian military campaign a “genocide,” urging Druze everywhere to stand in solidarity. Local leaders declared a general mobilization, calling the conflict “a war for our existence.”

While Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra later declared a ceasefire, the situation remains tense. The IDF confirmed continued surveillance and readiness to act if needed.

Chikli concluded, “Anyone who thinks Ahmad al-Sharaa is a legitimate leader is gravely mistaken.” His comments underscore growing Israeli concern over the Syrian regime’s escalating campaign against minority populations.
