Tragedy at IDF training base: 18-year-old soldier dies after sudden collapse

The IDF says it shares in the family’s grief and will continue to accompany them.

The IDF has announced the death of Cpl. Ermias Bahata, 18, from Maaleh Adumim, who collapsed earlier today at the Logistics Corps training base in southern Israel and was pronounced dead a short time later.

He was a new trainee at the base and was posthumously promoted from private to corporal.

According to the army, it is suspected that Bahata died as a result of an allergic reaction, though the exact medical cause has not yet been formally determined.

A dedicated medical investigation is underway to clarify what triggered the collapse and how events unfolded.

The Military Police has opened a parallel investigation, and its findings will be transferred to the Military Advocate General for review.

In addition, the head of the Technological and Logistics Directorate, Maj. Gen. Rami Abudraham, has appointed a team of experts led by a colonel to thoroughly probe the incident and its circumstances.

The IDF says it shares in the family’s grief and will continue to accompany them.

For a young trainee to lose his life on base, far from the battlefield, is a devastating blow — and the army is under heavy pressure to provide clear answers and ensure such a tragedy does not repeat.
