Ex-Dem activist hails Khamenei at funeral: ‘Great anti-imperialist’

Calla Walsh previously sparked outrage after mocking American troops killed in an Iranian drone strike.

A former staffer for prominent Democratic politicians attended a funeral ceremony for Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei over the weekend and offered lavish praise for the slain cleric in a video posted by a regime-affiliated news outlet.

In footage published by Press TV, Calla Walsh appeared wearing a hijab and described Khamenei as a hero for those opposed to Western influence and Israel.

“He was a leader to all people of the world who struggle against imperialism, arrogance, against Zionism, against genocide,” Walsh says in the video.

“To me, he was the greatest anti-imperialist leader to have lived during my lifetime,” she added.

Walsh also argued that Iran had emerged from its recent military confrontation with the United States in a stronger position, despite the conflict ending with a Memorandum of Understanding and a fragile ceasefire.

She claimed Washington “has been more humiliated than it has ever been before in its history” due to Iranian military prowess.

Earlier this year, Walsh mocked the deaths of four American service members killed in an Iranian drone strike, which occurred following the outbreak of Operation Epic Fury.

“They all died fighting for fascism, genocide, pedophilia, and cannibalism,” Walsh wrote of the fallen soldiers.

Walsh previously worked on the presidential campaign of Sen. Elizabeth Warren and on Michelle Wu’s successful 2021 Boston mayoral campaign before relocating overseas.

Born in Massachusetts to two university professors, Walsh was once viewed as a rising Democratic activist. As a teenager, she was profiled by The New York Times for her political activism and involvement in progressive causes.

In recent years, however, Walsh has shifted to outspoken support for the Iranian regime and other governments opposed to the United States. She has since relocated to Beirut, Lebanon, where she has appeared in media productions supportive of Tehran and has become a frequent commentator critical of U.S. foreign policy.
