Israel authorizes transfer into Gaza of $82 million in international aid

Israel has reportedly allowed tens of millions of dollars in international support provided by the EU and Persian Gulf states to enter Gaza.

Israel authorized the transfer of some NIS 300 million ($82 million) in cash to be transferred into the Gaza Strip, according to a report by Israel’s Channel 2 on Monday evening.

The money, which was transmitted in a number of transparent plastic bags, was reportedly transported under heavy security.

The cash is being provided by Persian Gulf states and the European Union and will pay the salaries of some 55,000 employees of the Palestinian Authority (PA). Tens of thousands of homes in Gaza will reportedly reap the benefits of the transfer.

Although Hamas kicked the PA out of Gaza in a Palestinian civil war 10 years ago, the PA continues to employ tens of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Since Hamas is a terrorist organization, Israel must ensure that no transfer of international support into Gaza will directly aid Hamas for its own national security.
