Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Tuesday that Israel will act against terror groups connected with the Iran-backed “axis” operating in Syria.

“We will operate with uncompromising conviction against any terrorist frameworks that we identify,” Liberman was quoted as saying during a press conference on the Golan Heights.

“As far as we are concerned the [Assad] regime is must answer for any aggression directed at Israel. It will be considered responsible and will be charged with the costs incurred by Israel.”

Liberman said that terrorists are operating in south Syria under the cover of the Assad regime’s renewed offensive against rebel strongholds in the area.

“The endeavor to set up terrorist cells under the aegis of the Assad regime will not be tolerated,” Liberman declared.

He reiterated that Iran’s presence in any part of Syria is not acceptable from Israel’s perspective.

“We will not acquiesce to the entrenchment of Iranian forces anywhere in Syria. Partial Iranian retreats from the border [with Israel] by 40 to 80 kilometers, do not change the equation, we will act against Iranian presence in Syria wherever we see it and will continue to do so.”
