IDF to begin Gaza withdrawal within 24 hours: Report

The Israeli army is preparing to withdraw from Gaza’s cities as part of a ceasefire agreement brokered by President Donald Trump.

The Israeli army is preparing to withdraw to a perimeter on the outskirts of Gaza, in accordance with the agreement between Israel and Hamas set to be signed at noon on Thursday, the IDF Spokesperson confirmed in a media statement.

The military has already begun operational preparations to reposition its forces from the front lines of the battle against Hamas in its terror strongholds in Gaza City, moving them closer to Israel’s border with Gaza.

The withdrawal of army forces “will proceed in line with the directives of the political leadership and the phases of the agreement, carried out responsibly and with full regard for the safety of our soldiers,” the IDF said in anticipation of the agreement’s requirements.

“As part of this process, preparations and a combat protocol are underway to transition to adjusted deployment lines soon,” the statement continued. “The army will continue working to achieve the goals of the war and to defend Israel’s citizens on all fronts.”

Military sources told Hebrew-language outlet Mako that the first stage of the withdrawal would be implemented within the next 24 hours.

The withdrawal to the so-called “yellow line,” outlined in former U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan, will still leave approximately 55 percent of the Gaza Strip occupied by Israeli troops. However, all soldiers will be stationed outside urban areas, where most Hamas terrorists and infrastructure are located.

Once the partial withdrawal is completed, Hamas is expected to release all 20 living Israeli hostages, who have been held in Gaza for two years.

In a separate statement released overnight, the military warned that it remains vigilant for unexpected developments should Hamas fail to uphold its end of the deal.

Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the IDF Chief of Staff, “instructed all forces, both on the front lines and in the rear areas, to prepare strong defenses and be ready for any scenario,” the army said.

“At the same time, the Chief of the General Staff instructed to prepare to lead the operation for the hostages’ return, which is expected to be conducted with sensitivity and professionalism.”
