21 Jews murdered in antisemitic attacks outside Israel in 2025

Report by Israel’s diaspora minister documents more than 800 severe antisemitic incidents in the Diaspora in 2025, along with more than 4,000 anti-Israel demonstrations and 124 million antisemitic posts on X.

More than 800 antisemitic incidents classified as “severe” were reported around the world in 2025, according to an interim report published Tuesday by Israel’s Diaspora Affairs Ministry.

The report found a dramatic increase in the number of deadly antisemitic incidents against Jews outside of Israel last year.

The interim findings, which were presented during the International Conference on Combating Antisemitism held in Jerusalem on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, showed a surge in the number of deaths in the Diaspora attributed to antisemitic attacks.

While there was one death in 2024 outside Israel that was confirmed as being the result of an antisemitic attack, 21 Jews were murdered in attacks involving antisemitism in 2025.

The fatalities included 15 deaths in a single incident, the December 14, 2025, Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney, Australia, in which a Chabad event marking the beginning of the Chanukah festival was targeted by a pair of Islamist terrorists.

In the course of less than two weeks, two deadly attacks against Jews occurred in the United States, with two Israeli embassy workers shot dead in Washington, D.C., in late May, and an 82-year-old woman killed in a firebomb attack by an Egyptian illegal immigrant at a pro-Israel event in Boulder, Colorado.

The dramatic increase in the number of deadly antisemitic attacks in 2025 contrasted with a notable decline in non-violent antisemitic incidents compared with 2024, though the Diaspora Affairs Ministry said this could reflect underreporting “or the normalization of non-violent antisemitic acts, rather than a real decline in activity.”

The ministry report documented 815 severe antisemitic incidents last year, with most of the incidents recorded in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, and Canada.

There were 124 million posts on the X social media platform flagged as being antisemitic, and more than 4,000 anti-Israel demonstrations reported worldwide last year, of which 365 were classified as posing a high or extreme risk to Jewish communities.

“On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we are required not only to remember but to act,” said Diaspora Affairs Minister Chikli (Likud) at the conference. “Antisemitism is not only a Jewish problem, but a global threat that endangers the entire free world. Together, we will fight this common enemy and prevail.”
