Arab woman arrested for calling in prank terror attacks

An Arab woman was arrested on suspicion she made dozens of prank calls to the police emergency line reporting a pending terror attack in the capital.

An Arab woman from the village of Anata, near Jerusalem, was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion she made dozens of prank calls to the police emergency line reporting a pending terror attack in the capital.

The calls, made in Arabic, initially caused the police to go on high alert, but after a while a pattern was established and the police launched an investigation, which led to the prankster’s arrest.

The suspect, in her 30s, admitted to making the calls during her investigation by police.

She was brought before a court on Tuesday and was remanded until Thursday. The court also ordered that she undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Capital police are on high alert ahead of the spring holidays and in wake of recent Palestinian terror attacks in city.

“This kind of harassment, beyond the fact that it causes the false mobilization of forces, harms the city’s routine, and we will act forcefully against these incidents,” the police said in a statement.
