Colombian pop star’s photo with IDF soldier triggers online Palestinian hate-fest

After Colombian singer Maluma posed with a female IDF soldier on Instagram, the pop star was flooded with hateful comments from pro-Palestinian posters, in addition to close to 1.3 million “likes.”

Colombian singer and songwriter Maluma’s world tour recently made a stop in Israel, where the 23-year-old mega star had a chance to see the sights and perform for thousands in Tel Aviv. During his stay in the Jewish state, the singer posed with a female IDF soldier, posting the photo on Instagram and captioning it “new security.”

While the photo had garnered well over a million “likes” from users of the popular social media platform, the comments section was also transformed into a battle field of sorts, with anti-Israel remarks abounding.

One user contributed this comment to the discussion, “I am against Zionism – the most powerful evil Satanic force in the world that created Israel.” Many of the comments used profanity, trotting out a range of anti-Semitic tropes and conspiracy theories to demonize Jews, Israelis, and any other individuals willing to defend the Jewish state.

Maluma’s world tour brought him to Israel in October, one stop in a performance marathon during which the singer performed 62 shows in North America, 55 in South America, and 24 in Europe.

The Palestinian mission to Maluma’s home country, Colombia, also recently made waves on social media , garnering attention for a tweet in which it declared in Spanish, “Our goal is the end of Israel, and there can be no compromises or mediations…. We don’t want peace. We want WAR and victory — Yasser Arafat.”
