Jewish civil rights group slams Mamdani after antisemitism posts disappear from mayor’s X account

A Jewish civil rights organization is pressing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for answers after posts addressing antisemitism were removed from the official NYC mayor’s X account shortly after he entered office.

The posts were published during the previous administration and focused on efforts to combat antisemitism in the city, including initiatives tied to Jewish safety and hate crime prevention.

Their sudden disappearance prompted a formal demand for clarification from the National Jewish Advocacy Center, which said the move raises serious concerns.

In a letter to City Hall, the group said deleting official messages about protecting Jewish New Yorkers sends a disturbing signal at a moment when antisemitic incidents remain elevated across the city.

The organization said the decision undermines confidence and creates the appearance that antisemitism is being deprioritized.

It asked whether the posts were preserved and why messages dealing specifically with antisemitism were removed during the transition.

Mamdani’s office pushed back, saying the posts were “archived” as part of a standard administrative process and were not singled out because of their content.

Still, Jewish advocates say the optics are alarming.

They note that the deleted posts included references to city reports and programs aimed at addressing antisemitism and that removing them on the first days of a new administration sends the wrong message to the Jewish community.

The civil rights group is now calling on the mayor to publicly reaffirm his commitment to fighting antisemitism and to explain how his administration will protect Jewish New Yorkers going forward as scrutiny of his early actions continues to grow.
