Israeli security cabinet approves automatic Beirut strike policy for Hezbollah attacks

The move grants broader operational authority to the security establishment in an effort to enable a faster response to attacks from Lebanon.

Israel’s security cabinet has approved a new response policy on the northern front, authorizing immediate strikes in Beirut for any launch from Lebanon that crosses into Israeli territory, while senior military officials warned that further confrontation with Iran remains possible and pledged continued action against Hezbollah, Channel 14 reported.

The decision was made during a meeting of the restricted security cabinet held Monday morning.

Under the directive, any launch from Lebanon that enters Israeli territory will trigger a strike in Beirut without requiring additional approval from the political leadership, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.

The move grants broader operational authority to the security establishment in an effort to enable a faster response to attacks from Lebanon.

As of Tuesday, no launches crossing into Israeli territory had been identified since Monday morning, meaning the policy had not yet been tested.

The cabinet meeting focused on security decisions affecting the coming months as Israel continues to face threats on multiple fronts.

The security situation remains volatile, with recent events including the deadly attack in Kokhav Ya’ir, direct launches from Iran and continued violations from Lebanon.

At the same time, the Israel Defense Forces have continued targeted operations in Gaza, where additional eliminations were recently carried out.

During a visit to commander training exercises in northern Israel, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir addressed the regional security situation and Israel’s posture toward both Iran and Hezbollah.

“The Iranian attempt to dictate equations and change reality will fail. The strike we carried out in Iran was preparation for a much more significant and powerful blow. We will continue to operate and deepen the damage inflicted on the Hezbollah terrorist organization and protect the communities of northern Israel. The IDF remains on high alert and will act forcefully wherever we identify a threat to the citizens of the State of Israel,” Zamir said.

Tensions involving Iran remained high. A senior security official told Channel 14 News on Monday night that a return to intensive fighting with Iran could occur within days.

In response to those assessments, the IDF and the broader security establishment have maintained a heightened level of readiness in both defensive and offensive operations.
