Soldier who shot wounded terrorist saves lives of 2 soldiers in prison

Despite being in prison, Elor Azaria, sentenced for shooting a wounded terrorist in Hebron, continued to act as a combat medic.

Imprisoned IDF soldier Elor Azaria, who was sentenced in February to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter, helped save the lives of two other inmates.

Israel’s 0404 news site reported Friday that Azaria was praised by an IDF official as a “hero” for treating two soldiers who had lost consciousness. A trained medic, Azaria provided medical attention while the rest of the staff panicked.

Viktor, Azaria’s uncle who shared the story with 0404, said that when Azaria was asked about the incidents he modestly answered that “the soldiers were not feeling well and I helped with the treatment.”

“That’s the real Elor,” Viktor said.

In March 2016, Azaria, a combat medic stationed in Hebron, shot a neutralized terrorist in the head as he lay wounded on the ground after committing a stabbing attack against the soldier’s colleagues.

Azaria claimed during his trial that he felt his life was in danger, saying he thought the terrorist could have been carrying a bomb on his body.
