Ceasefire teeters as rockets continue to rain on Israeli cities

Despite a ceasefire, Gaza terrorists continue to fire rockets into Israel.

The ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad is having trouble standing on its legs as Gaza Strip terrorists continue to launch rockets. At least five have been launched since the agreement which was supposed to go into effect at 5:30 a.m., Thursday, according to reports.

The IDF reports that red alert sirens sounded in the city of Netivot and Eshkol and Sadot Negev regions just before 10:00 a.m.

A spokesmen for the Sadot Negev Regional Council said, “In the last few minutes there has been an alarm in some of the council’s settlements. We request that you carefully follow the guidelines and stay close to protected areas or most protected areas [available].”

Magen David Adom said it had not received calls reporting of casualties.

The total number of rockets reportedly fired from the Gaza Strip in just over 48 hours is 560, according to an unofficial count by an Israel Ministry of Strategic Affairs spokesperson.

It’s unclear if the ceasefire, which was reached with the help of Egyptian mediators, will hold given the continued violence.

Israel has not yet responded to the most recent rocket fire.

In the latest round of fighting, between 32-34 Palestinians were killed and over 100 wounded, according to Palestinian reports.

On Thursday, 10 Israelis were treated by Magen David Adom, five for stress-related injuries and five for injuries suffered while running to shelter. A 1-year-old baby was injured after she fell from her mother’s arms in Ashdod.

The number adds to the 63 Israeli civilians injured as of yesterday. Their injuries were described as mild.

However, an 8-year-old girl who collapsed on the way to a shelter is still said to be in severe but stable condition as of Wednesday.
