Hamas-supporting, trust fund communist busted in Spain

The billionaire heir has long funded far-left causes while making inflammatory anti-Israel and anti-U.S. public statements.

James “Fergie” Cox Chambers Jr., an heir to the multibillion-dollar Cox Communications fortune and a longtime financier of far-left political causes, was arrested in Spain last week on an international warrant, bringing to an end a manhunt that reportedly spanned multiple continents.

Chambers was taken into custody on the Spanish party island of Ibiza on Friday. A spokesman for Spain’s National Police confirmed to Fox News that an American citizen had been arrested pursuant to an international warrant seeking extradition to the United States.

Sources familiar with the matter told Fox News that the individual arrested was Chambers, whose family has an estimated net worth of approximately $27 billion.

While the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI declined to comment publicly on the case, Fox News cited sources who said Chambers is expected to face charges including money laundering and providing material support to Hamas, via his financing of radical and terror-affiliated organizations.

Chambers reportedly received a payout of roughly $250 million after separating from the family’s business interests in 2023. Since then, he has become known for financing a variety of far-left activist organizations and political causes, while also making public statements sharply critical of both the United States and Israel.

In an interview with the progressive outlet Mother Jones, Chambers described the October 7 Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel as a “moment of hope and inspiration.”

He also said that “the most important thing for the prosperity of humanity is the destruction of the U.S.,” adding that “I chant death to America every day.”

Those remarks drew widespread criticism and renewed scrutiny of Chambers’ political activism and financial support for organizations aligned with his ideological views.

Chambers, who converted to Islam, previously lived in Tunis, Tunisia, where he appeared in a photo shoot wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh and a traditional black skullcap worn by pious Muslim men.

His social media accounts indicated that he had spent recent months traveling through Europe, including Ireland, before his reported arrest in Spain.

Spanish authorities have not publicly disclosed a timeline for any extradition hearing, and it remains unclear whether Chambers intends to challenge his transfer to U.S. custody.
