IDF kills armed terrorist after border infiltration from Lebanon

The suspect was reportedly discovered by chance after troops were dispatched to the area following reports of a brush fire.

An armed terrorist infiltrated Israel from Lebanon on Tuesday and was killed by IDF troops near the Ramim Ridge area after crossing the border and moving several hundred meters into Israeli territory, the military said.

According to new details, the terrorist crossed near Wadi Hunin, north of Margaliot, and hid inside an abandoned IDF guard post located just a few hundred meters from homes in the community.

The suspect was reportedly discovered by chance after troops were dispatched to the area following reports of a brush fire.

Troops identified the terrorist during searches in the area and opened fire, killing the infiltrator. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the incident.

The terrorist was armed with a pistol and a knife and was wearing camouflage clothing associated with Hezbollah, though security officials said his organizational affiliation has not yet been determined.

Initial concerns that more than one terrorist might have crossed the border triggered extensive searches involving ground forces, special units, police, and Air Force assets. After further investigation, the IDF concluded that only a single infiltrator was involved.

The incident is now being investigated by Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo, with the military examining how the terrorist managed to approach and cross the border in an area under continuous security monitoring while IDF operations continue in southern Lebanon.

Security forces continued searches and roadblocks in the area even after the terrorist was eliminated to ensure there were no additional suspects.
