Disgraced U.S. billionaire and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was found semi-conscious and lying in the fetal position in his New York City jail cell with injuries to his neck on Wednesday night, NBC News reports.

Epstein, 66, is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan. The event happened at some point in the last two days, sources told NBC News. Epstein is on suicide watch, NBC’s sources also said.

It isn’t clear if Epstein attempted suicide or was targeted by another inmate.

Epstein’s request to remain under house arrest in his Upper East Side Manhattan mansion was rejected by a federal judge, who cited compelling evidence that Epstein was a danger to the community.

Epstein is accused of abusing dozens of underage teen girls. He would then use the girls to recruit others in an “ever-expanding web of new victims,” U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said.

Epstein entered these girls into a “little black book,” an address book that grew to include over 100 names, the Miami Herald reported.

Epstein has pleaded not guilty.

A hedge fund manager whose net worth is estimated at $559 million, Epstein hobnobbed with the rich and famous, including Bill Clinton and Donald Trump.

Israeli politician Ehud Barak also had dealings with Epstein. The former prime minister has attempted to distance himself from the jailed financier as he runs in Israel’s current elections.
