Report: Israel hits 7 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon

Reports on alleged Israeli strikes against Hezbollah in Syria continue to surface and tensions remain high in wake of the alleged assassination of arch-terrorist Samir Kuntar.

Sources affiliated with the Syrian opposition reported over the weekend that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacked seven position belonging to the Hezbollah terror organization in the Qalamoun Mountains area.

The Qalamoun area, which straddles the Lebanon-Syria border, has been the site of fierce battles between Hezbollah and Assad regime forces and the various Syrian Sunni rebels groups over the past months. It has also been a major relay point for weapons transfers between Hezbollah and the Syrian regime.

The Israeli military did not comment on the reports, as has been its policy in the past when such reports have surfaced.

Israel’s Channel 2 reports that the IDF released a statement before the reports emerged warning that, “in the coming hours, sounds of explosions may be heard in the Upper Galilee. These are initiated and controlled explosions that were planned in advance and not a security incident.”

The Hezbollah affiliated al-Mayadeen TV station denied the reports.

There have been several previous reports of IAF airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Syria, primarily against weapons shipments. Many of the weapons shipments are financed by Iran.

Since the death of notorious terrorist Samir Kuntar in Syria last Saturday, reportedly in an IAF strike, there have been numerous reports of IAF activity in Syrian and Lebanese skies.

The IDF has instructed Israeli farmers with fields near the northern border to stay away, fearing a Hezbollah retaliatory terror attack, after the IDF’s announcement follows its instruction to its own forces to maintain a low profile and wear extra protective gear when patrolling near the border.

Meanwhile, a European diplomat is quoted by the Kuwaiti Al-Qabas newspaper on Saturday that Hezbollah has received messages through official Lebanese channels not to launch a revenge attack against Israel for Kuntar’s assassination, since in such a scenario, Israel will likely respond forcefully.
