2 border police officers killed in highway motorcycle crash

Sergeant First Class Gal Yosef, 23, and Sergeant First Class Tomer Eliyahu Kalifi, 24, were tragically killed Saturday morning when a vehicle struck them on Route 90.

Two Border Police officers, Sergeant First Class Gal Yosef, 23, and Sergeant First Class Tomer Eliyahu Kalifi, 24, were tragically killed Saturday morning when a vehicle struck them on Route 90 near the Sde Eliezer junction in the Upper Galilee.

The officers were riding motorcycles at the time of the incident, which also resulted in moderate injuries to a man and woman in their 70s.

Sergeant First Class Gal Yosef, from Afula, served in the Border Police’s Northern District and is survived by his wife, parents, and two sisters.

He had a distinguished service record, having enlisted in the Border Police and later serving as a career officer in northern Israel.

A fellow officer praised him, stating, “He had the best heart of anyone I’ve ever met. When there wasn’t a commander for the team, Gal would step up and take care of every fighter.”

Another comrade added, “He was always first to volunteer, always thinking of others.”

Sergeant First Class Tomer Eliyahu Kalifi, from Kfar Baruch, also served in the Border Police in northern Israel. He is survived by his parents, three sisters, and girlfriend. Tomer had recently taken command of his team and was recognized for his exceptional investigative skills.

A friend remarked, “The one word for him is ‘man.’ He gave his heart to everyone. He was the anchor of the unit.” Another comrade noted, “His heart was open to everyone. He did everything from the heart, and you could feel it in every action and every mission.”

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene of the accident.

Investigations are ongoing as the community mourns the loss of these dedicated officers, who were known for their commitment to service and their camaraderie within the Border Police.
