‘Genocide juice’ — NY cafe humiliates pro-Israel congressman, returns his money

Poetica Coffee said it refunded Congressman Dan Goldman to avoid accepting money from a “genocide enabler.”

A Brooklyn coffee shop publicly boasted that it refunded a purchase made by Rep. Dan Goldman, accusing the Jewish congressman of being complicit in “genocide” because of his pro-Israel views.

Poetica Coffee, located in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, published an unhinged tirade on Facebook targeting Goldman after he stopped by the shop with his young daughter.

The café, which says on its website that a core part of its ethos is ensuring that “whoever walks through the door is treated with unconditional dignity,” posted a screenshot from its security footage showing Goldman waiting in line and mocked him for visiting the business.

Addressing the congressman directly, the coffee shop wrote: “we see that you stopped by our shop today for a coffee. Do you see how it doesn’t taste like genocide juice? Or are you still having a hard time telling the difference?”

The post also included a screenshot showing that Goldman’s $9.82 purchase had been refunded, which the business framed as a deliberate move to avoid accepting money from him.

“See, here at Poetica, we don’t serve racists, fascists, homophobes, genocide enablers, or anyone in between. Too bad we didn’t recognize you right away, or we would have turned you away. We issued you a refund — we don’t need your money (it’s probably coming from AIPAC anyways)… Don’t ever come to Poetica.”

The café’s post also featured British pop star Lily Allen’s song “F— you.”

In a media release responding to the irate Facebook post, Goldman downplayed the incident.

“I am sorry to see this post. The barista could not have been nicer to my 7-year-old daughter and me — allowing her to use the bathroom even though we had not purchased anything,” the politician said.

“I made sure to buy a coffee in return for her kindness. I hope you at least make sure she gets the tip that she deserved.”

When contacted by the New York Post about the incident, a staffer at the café reportedly replied: “No comment. We stand against genocide.”
