Netanyahu praises Trump for standing up to Iran’s Ayatollah

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised US President Donald Trump for his persistently tough stance against Iran’s “aggression.”

Addressing the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday, Netanyahu said that he “would like to commend the strong position expressed yesterday by President Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo against the aggression of the regime in Iran.”

“Over the years, this regime has been spoiled by the major powers, and it is good to see that the US is changing this unacceptable equation,” he underscored.

Trump on Sunday night warned Iranian President Hassan Rouhani of dire consequences for threatening the US.

“NEVER EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKE OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE,” Trump tweeted.

“WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!,” he wrote.

Trump was responding to Rouhani, who said Sunday that “America must understand well that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace and war with Iran is the mother of all wars.”

Rouhani warned Trump to stop “playing with the lion’s tail” and threatening Iran, “or else you will regret it.”

Trump earlier this year pulled the US out of the international nuclear deal meant to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon and ordered increased American sanctions.

Netanyahu also said that he will meet on Monday with a Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

Netanyahu spoke on Friday by telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding “regional developments and the situation in Syria,” Netanyahu said.

Russia, Bashar al-Assad’s patron, has a say in the going-ons in the country and is working with Israel to remove the Iranian threat from Israel’s borders.

Netanyahu said he will present to the Russian delegation the same position that he presented to Putin during his last visit to Moscow.

“Israel insists that [1974] Separation of Forces Agreement between it and Syria be honored as it was in the decades before the outbreak of civil war in Syria, and that Israel will continue to act against any attempt by Iran and its proxies to establish a military presence in Syria,” he stated.
