New accuser claims ICC prosecutor Karim Khan sexually harassed her

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, who drafted arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is facing new accusations of sexual harassment after a second woman has come forward.

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is facing fresh sexual harassment accusations after a second woman came forward with allegations of misconduct by the British jurist.

On Thursday, The Guardian reported that a second woman approached the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) to accuse ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan of sexual harassment.

The UN office launched an investigation of Khan last year after a Malaysian attorney in her 30s accused Khan of sexual harassment culminating in rape.

The sexual assault allegedly took place as Khan was building a criminal case against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Last November, the ICC issued arrest warrants for both Gallant and Netanyahu.

After the accusation became public, Khan temporarily stepped aside as ICC chief prosecutor, leaving deputy prosecutors to fill his role.

Meanwhile, a woman who worked with Khan in the late 2000s has now accused him of behaving inappropriately toward her, including repeatedly making unwanted sexual advances and using his authority to pressure her into having sex with him.

The second accuser worked as an unpaid intern for Khan when she was in her 20s, with the alleged misconduct occurring in 2009.

At the time, Khan, now 55, was a 38-year-old defense attorney working for multiple tribunals in The Hague, including the ICC.

During her time working for Khan, the woman faced a “constant onslaught” of unwanted sexual advances, she told The Guardian.

“He shouldn’t have been doing it,” she said. “He was my employer.”

Like the first accuser, Khan’s former intern said he asked her to work alongside him at his private residence, where he would sit beside her, make unwanted physical contact and kiss her.

Khan’s attorneys denied the latest allegations, calling the claims of sexual misconduct “wholly untrue.”
