Trump calls for probe of Obama’s alleged wiretapping during 2016 campaign

The Trump administration is calling for a probe into the possibility that Obama wiretapped then candidate Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign, following up on accusations from the President.

The Trump White House is calling on Congress to conduct a probe into allegations that former President Barack Obama wiretapped President Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“President Donald J. Trump is requesting that as part of their investigation into Russian activity, the congressional intelligence committees exercise their oversight authority to determine whether executive branch investigative powers were abused in 2016,” stated Trump’s Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

“Reports concerning potentially politically motivated investigations immediately ahead of the 2016 election are very troubling,” Spicer added.

Spicer made his remarks one day after Trump accused his immediate predecessor on Twitter of engaging in tactics of “McCarthyism” against him shortly before Election Day.
