How good is it to see happy smiles on kids from all over Israel and the world in the midst of a chaotic war?

Every weeknight, eight-year-old Sarah from Baltimore races to her mom’s laptop. In London, ten-year-old David finishes his homework just in time.

Kids in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Montreal and Los Angeles all know what time it is.

Time to take their positions.

Tziri Preis never planned to start a global prayer movement. She originally launched InKredible Kids because she was frustrated trying to find decent content for her own children.

Her storytelling sessions found an audience quickly, but when news broke about the massacre in Israel, Preis found herself staring at her computer screen, wondering what to tell the kids who’d been logging in every night.

How do you explain something like that to a seven-year-old?

So instead of stories that night, she suggested they pray together. Not just for the people who were hurt and taken hostage, but also to give the children a chance to feel like they could do something in a world where grown-ups were just as scared as they were.

A few dozen kids showed up. Then a few hundred. They started calling themselves the Tehillim Army, and it was a fitting name. If you’ve never heard of Tehillim, you’re not alone.

They’re ancient Jewish prayers, usually said in times of trouble or when someone needs healing. For thousands of years, Jewish families have whispered these words when they had no other words to offer.

Sunday through Thursday, “Morah Tziri” reads King David’s words while hundreds of young Jewish voices repeat them back. Some stumble over pronunciations they’re still learning. Others know every syllable by heart.

Yesterday, this special weekly gathering was joined by Netanel Katz, better known as “Simcha on Wheels.” Before Netanel danced with the kids, you could hear the excitement through their computer speakers as they screamed out their Tehillim.

Netanel, in his signature style and swagger, made saying prayers feel like the coolest thing these kids had ever done. Then they danced and danced.

How good is it to see happy smiles on kids from all over Israel and the world in the midst of a chaotic war?

Because that’s what this really is. Hundreds of kids who decided that when terrible things happen, you don’t just sit there.

They show up as soldiers, just like the brave heroes defending the Jewish State, even if it’s just on a computer screen, even if you’re only eight years old.

And true to the Jewish spirit, they have a great time as well! Am Yisrael Chai!
