‘No PA role in Gaza’ – Netanyahu lays out Israel’s red lines during Vance meeting

Israel’s prime minister reportedly told Vice President Vance that Turkish army presence in Gaza, Palestinian Authority involvement in post-war rule, and premature withdrawal of IDF are all non-starters.

Israel has set a number of red lines regarding the implementation of President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, Israeli media outlets reported Wednesday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Vice President JD Vance at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem on Wednesday after meetings this week with White House Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and confidant. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Israel on Thursday to attend meetings with Netanyahu.

The high-level American visits to Israel this week are part of the efforts by the Trump administration to ensure the survival of the Gaza peace deal after a string of violations by Hamas and to hammer out details for the implementation of the second phase of the deal.

According to a report by Israel’s Channel 12, during his meetings with US officials this week, Netanyahu voiced concerns regarding the implementation of key components of the second phase.

During talks with Vance on Wednesday, Netanyahu reportedly laid out several red lines, chief among them Israel’s insistence that the Palestinian Authority and Hamas have no role whatsoever in the post-war governance of the Gaza Strip.

While the Trump peace plan explicitly denies Hamas “any role…directly or indirectly” in the governance of Gaza, a report by Israel’s national broadcaster, Kan Reshet Bet, said that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority are behind the appointment of a technocratic Palestinian committee that would be charged with administering the Gaza Strip.

Last December, Hamas and the Palestinian Authority inked an agreement in Cairo pledging to split their influence over the post-war Gaza Strip by jointly appointing a new governing body. Israel objected to the deal, rejecting the PA or Hamas having any involvement in the post-war Gaza Strip.

Citing Israeli and American officials, the Channel 12 report also said Netanyahu firmly rejected the presence of Turkish soldiers in the Gaza Strip.

Turkey has reportedly accepted a role on the Egyptian-led multi-national Gaza security force currently under formation.

Furthermore, Netanyahu emphasized to Vance that Israel will not withdraw from additional territories in the Gaza Strip until Hamas has been disarmed and its vast terror infrastructure in Gaza dismantled.

According to an Israeli official cited in the report, however, the Trump administration has so far insisted that Turkish forces be included in the interim security force and that the Palestinian Authority has a role in post-war Gaza, considering the PA to be the only viable alternative to Hamas.
