An Iranian couple who lived in Sweden under false identities were involved in a plot with a terrorist group to murder Jews, according to an investigative report by Swedish Radio.

Mahdi Ramezani and Fereshteh Sanaeifarid, who were originally form Iran but lived in Sweden under false names and claiming to be from Afghanistan, were undercover agents involved with the IRGC, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp, an Iranian terrorist organization.

They lived in Sweden for five years but were deported when Swedish intelligence officials uncovered their ties to the IRGC in connection to plotting a terror incident.

It was decided the couple would be deported, but further action was not taken because the prosecution was unable to determine specific details of the murder plot.

However, the FBI took up the investigation of the couple and found that they also allegedly targeted a US citizen.

While living in Sweden, Mahdi Ramezani and Fereshteh Sanaeifarid were directed by the IRGC to murder Aron Verständig Chair of the Official Council of Swedish Jewish Communities.

Verständig recounted when in 2021 the Swedish Security Service warned him of a terror threat against him.

“They basically told me that you have been named as one of the targets of a possible terror crime that involves murder,” Verständig said.

Although shaken by the news, Verständig says he will continue his activities in support of the Jewish community in Sweden.

“I want to be clear that I am not intimidated. I will continue to do what I am doing in spite of this,” Verständig said.

In December, the Mossad uncovered plots by Iran terrorist groups against Israelis and other Jews in Cyprus.

Reports revealed that two Iranian nationals arrested by Cypriot police were members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and were planning to attack Jews and Israelis on the island.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s office released a statement on behalf of the Mossad, “The Cypriot security and enforcement agencies thwarted, in partnership with the Mossad for intelligence and special functions, an Iranian terrorist infrastructure that planned to carry out attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets in Cyprus.”

The Mossad statement continued, “Thanks to the preventive activity and the arrest of the cell by the security services in Cyprus, a great deal of information was received, which led to the exposure of the terrorists, the methods of operation, the targets of the attack, and the Iranian plan to cause the killing of innocents in Cyprus and other arenas.”
