Anti-Israel activist Linda Sarsour cashes in on Hurricane relief funds

Linda Sarsour is accused of using the Hurricane Harvey crisis to raise funds for her own political causes.

Some left-wing activists, including anti-Israel mouthpiece Linda Sarsour, are attempting to fund their projects by taking advantage of relief raised for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Fox News reported on Saturday that Sarsour last week tweeted to her followers, “Donate to the Harvey Hurricane Relief Fund” and included a link to a website called Texas Organizing Project (TOP).

The site says the mission of the group is to “promote social and economic equality for low to moderate income Texans through community and electoral organizing.”

The specific link Sarsour broadcast out to her 230,000 Twitter followers went to a donation page that states: “Your donation is vital to ensuring that we have the resources we need to organize and fight for Texans devastated by Hurricane Harvey!”

“Together we will organize and advocate for our devastated communities, shining a spotlight on inequalities that emerge in the restoration of lives, livelihoods, and homes, amplifying the needs of hard-hit communities, and providing legal assistance for residents wrongfully denied government support,” the fund’s mission statement says.

The project is funded by the Open Society Foundations, which was founded by billionaire leftist George Soros.

A statement on the Texas Organizing Project’s Facebook page stated originally, “All donations made here will only be used to organize in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Thank you!” and was later edited out.

Fox News points out in its report that nowhere does it state on the donation page that any money donated will go to immediate victims in need of food, shelter or supplies.

The Blaze reported that Sarsour’s critics pounced on her alleged attempt to raise money for community organizing under the guise of Hurricane Harvey relief.

“This is a political PAC not #Harvey relief. You’re literally stealing money from these people,” one critic tweeted in response.

“So Linda Sarsour is attempting to exploit the victims of Hurricane #Harvey by fundraising off of the disaster. What a fraud,” another one tweeted.

“Leave it to @lsarsour to divert hurricane relief money to a political PAC [political action committee]. This creep has no shame. Trash,” charged another one.

Sarsour told Newsweek on Thursday that she was stunned that her call for philanthropy was being misconstrued. She framed the criticism of her efforts as a racist, partisan attack.

In a follow-up tweet she said “Texas Organizing Project is not my PAC, but who cares about facts when you are white supremacists obsessed w/ smearing women of color.”

“The most interesting thing about Sarsour’s statement here is not that she is accusing reporters of racism (she does this pretty much every day), but that she is in fact admitting these donations are going to an activist PAC, not to relief efforts for hurricane victims,” Fox News wrote in summary.
